The Flipper well plugging project reduced over a million tons of CO2e from escaping to atmosphere. The project also restored five acres of land to be used as a forest moving forward. Guardian Plug & Abandonment worked with Southern Oil of Louisiana to plug two gas-leaking wells near Beaumont, Texas. These wells had been idle for years and could no longer economically produce, despite large volumes of gas in reserve. These wells were drilled to depths greater than 10,000 feet and then extended laterally into the Yegua Formation. Proper plugging of these wells included installing several cement plugs along with cast-iron bridge plugs to fully isolate the formation and prevent future gas leaks. In addition to reducing substantial methane emissions, the project has several co-benefits. The labor of this project provided valuable work and the five-acre pad was completely removed and the land was restored to prime forest conditions.
