In this project, One Tonne Capital plugged a single well in Shackleford County, preventing over 10,000 tons of CO2e from being released. Before completing the plugging of Hilltex River Ranch “180” #1, One Tonne Capital commissioned a review of the well and the surrounding area in order to determine that the plugging of this well will sequester methane gas, protect the Cross Timber Aquifer, and provide a positive benefit to the surrounding area (which include some potential exposure to disadvantaged communities). After plugging of the well was completed following applicable state rules, the area containing the well pad and other pad related surface disturbances (i.e., road, pits, etc.) was reclaimed back to its native state. Reclaimed areas were recontoured to the contour existing prior to initial construction or a contour that blends indistinguishably with the surrounding landscape and an NRCS approved native seed mix was used to re‐vegetate the disturbed surfaces. It is anticipated this approach will yield approximately 1.54‐acres of land reclamation and will directly result in co‐benefits to include soil regeneration, biodiversity, and air & water quality.
